December 15, 2021 – Vancouver, Canada – CharCoat Passive Fire Protection Inc., the global leader in Passive Fire Protection, specializing in Electrical Fire Protection, Firestopping & Insulation coatings, is very proud to announce its successfully completed a full round of immersion testing with our CharCoat CC Cable Coating. The main goal of immersion testing is to see if CharCoat CC still performs under fire as required after being immersed in water for a period of time. Would 7 or 14 day immersion breakdown the coating and no longer be fit for purpose? This was a direct test requirement from a power utility in the USA due to problems they are having with cable tunnels which were being flooded due to heavy rains.
Needless to say, after the 7 and 14 day tests, CharCoat CC performed perfectly. There was no discoloration or chemical breakdown to the cable coating, and the burn tests after immersion showed no failure in product at all. Full test data is available on request.
“Immersion testing is highly critical for facilities that have water ingress issues, and to know that CharCoat CC has passed 14 days without issue in performance is a testament to the product”. Stated Sean Ritchie, CEO for CharCoat. We now know for certain that a cable coated with CharCoat CC in a tunnel that has underwater will continue to be fireproofed without issue.
