October 3rd. 2022 – Vancouver, Canada – CharCoat Passive Fire Protection Inc., the global leader in Fire Protection, specializing in Electrical Cables, is very proud to announce the completion of the first substation for Sarawak Energy Berhad, Malaysia by our special CharCoat Installer; Jatie Maritime Safety Services SDN BHD.
The Works performed by Jatie Maritime Safety Services Sdn Bhd under the Contract comprised of all the performance activities and the provision of all resources necessary to complete the engineering, procurement, installation, mechanical completion, and commissioning of the Works by installing a passive fire protection system comprises of CharCoat FP and CharCoat IS and CharCoat CC as a firestop system mainly for the existing cable penetrations that runs through a floor where the electrical cable located at cable compartment area at the Oya 275kV Substation.
One of the potential risks that was identified by Sarawak Energy Berhad were the cable penetrations whereby it may become an open point for a fire propagating to the control room, which could possibly lead to a greater loss and may pose risk to personnel. The other possible risk that was identified is the passage of the smoke through unsealed openings. The loss caused by the spread of fire damages can be minimized when effective compartmentation is incorporated into a building’s design. Therefore, CharCoat penetration seals were chosen for their effectiveness and approval status.
