Incredibly thin, the CharCoat FM-906 Range can be applied for interior or exterior works. Nearly all applications and steel sections are covered by the FM-906 range. For interior applications, no topcoats are required, but may be used simply for colouring of the steelwork. Exterior works always require a topcoat.

Note: While topcoats are not required for interior conditioned spaces, a decorative topcoat may be applied for aesthetic purposes. For environmental exposure concerns in non conditioned spaces, we recommend the use of an exterior topcoat.

Why fireproof paint for steel is necessary?

Strength and durability are some of the reasons steel is used in building construction today. Steel is one the strongest construction materials, used in buildings across the world. However, this strength is challenged by the severe heat of a fire. In a fire, it can take only minutes for unprotected steel to reach critical failure temperature of 550ºC, at which point it loses its capacity to bear load, leading to structural failure and collapse. In fact, strength loss starts already at 300ºC, which is why you need fireproof paint for steel.

For Any Application requirement, CharCoat Passive Fire Protection can calculate all of your Fireproof Coating needs based on a fireproofing Bill of Quantities, just send us the Fireproofing Steel Schedule and we will help with all of your estimations. Its that easy.
